From the family Boraginaceae, an annual herb also known as starflower due to its charming blue to purple or even pink star shaped flowers, grows readily in poor soil with silica spines along the stem. Growing up to 2 feet tall with long oval shaped leaves covered in stiff microfine hairs. Good for mulching at the end of the season as the silica can help your flowers and vegetables next season if given as compost.
